Netflix, the world’s most popular streaming platform, is now planning to give users an experience of entertainment as well as video gaming (Video Games). Yes, the company has recently appointed former electronic art and Facebook executive Mike Verdu as vice president of game development. Netflix currently only presents movies and TV shows on its platform and has been hinting at expanding the video gaming market for some time now. Also, Netflix announced whether it is launching two new services – Kids Recap Email and Kids Top 10 Row – aimed at making the platform more friendly for children.
Video games can be played without any additional charge
According to a Bloomberg report, Netflix plans to expand its platform by entering the video gaming market by next year. The games can appear as a new programming style – similar to its documentary and Stand Up specials – and can initially be introduced without any additional charge. Verdu is said to report directly to Greg Peters (CEO Greg Peters), chief operating officer of Netflix.
Netflix has hinted at entering the video gaming market for some time. It was first announced with free-to-play Stranger Things mobile game, which was announced in E3 2019. In May, Netflix announced it was looking for an executive to help boost its investment in the video game market. The streaming platform has also previously experimented with interactive films and TV shows such as Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Carmen Sandiago.
How does the Kids Recap Email feature work?
The company has also announced two new services to make the platform more Children-Friendly. The first is called the kids recap email feature that will send parents Insights on children’s favorite content, recommendations based on their favorite programs on Netflix, and activities inspired by printable coloring sheets and their favorite films, shows, and characters. Netflix will also give parents top themes and topic charts showing where their children have enjoyed the most. Parents will also be given tips to improve children’s viewing experience on Netflix and increase parental control over profiles. The service will start on July 16 and will be launched for users who have an active kids profile in their account.
The second edition of Netflix is Kids Top 10 Row. It will show the top 10 most popular titles for children – which will be updated daily with their maturity rating. All devices that make the title for Kids Top 10 row will have a red ‘Top 10′ badge. The list can be found on the Kids’ profile homepage or in the ‘New & Popular’ section in the menu bar. Kids Top 10 Row is already live for users from 93 countries.
